Louise D. Smith, 79, of Arden died, Saturday, June 2, 2007 at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Furth, Germany. She was the oldest daughter of the late Wilhelm and Dorothea Uebler. She came to the United States after her marriage and resided in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania for many years. She moved with her family to Asheville in 1968 and relocated to the Arden area after her retirement. Louise was employed as a bookkeeper for Math Insurance Company, Western North Carolina Food Brokerage which became Acosta Food Brokerage until her retirement. She was a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Asheville. She is survived by her son, Ben W. Smith of Arden; and three daughters, Barbara S. Baker of Charlotte; Susan S. Sparks of Maiden; and Jacqueline Smith of Laurel, Maryland; a brother, Fritz Uebler of Schwabach, Germany, and a sister, Elfrieda Egerer of Zirndorf, Germany. She has 9 grandchildren, Mary Cassetta, Joseph “Joey” Smith, Cheryl Guilmette, Dwayne Gilbert, Dawn Rudisell, Al Baker, Kimberly, Johnny, and Matthew Sparks and 11 great grandchildren, Ashe and Raine Cassetta, Taylor, Jordan and Kolby Guilmette, Tyler and Logan Rudisell, Wyatt Baker, Randle and Jacob Huffman and Dayton Gilbert. She has a number of cousins, nieces and nephews in Germany and in the USA. A memorial service will be held at Grace Covenant Church at 789 Merrimon Avenue, in Asheville on Thursday, June 7, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. A reception for the family and friends is to be held after the service in the fellowship hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorial contributions may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, Elizabeth House, 571 South Allen Rd, Flat Rock, N.C. 28731, or The Williamson Fund, c/o Cancer Care of Western North Carolina, 445 Biltmore Ave #100, Asheville, NC 28801, Attn: Jeanne.
