Luise Lahmann Butler of 42 Gladstone Road, Asheville, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2002, at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Butler was born in Frankfurt Am Main, Germany to the late Hermann and Henrietta Lahmann. She and her husband of 54 years, Douglas H. Butler, were married March 6, 1948, in Frankfurt Am Main, and subsequently lived for a brief time in Mr. Butler’s home in Pittsfield, MA before moving to Silver Spring, MD. They moved to Asheville in 1952 and had lived in their home on Gladstone Road for 44 years. Mrs. Butler was an accomplished floral designer with Clements Flower Shop from 1953 until her retirement in 1976. In 1968 she won first place as a designer at the Southeastern Florists Convention in Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by a brother, Hermann Lahmann, Jr., and sister Greta L. Rohn. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Friedel L. Bechtold and a nephew, Hermann Rohn, both of Frankfurt Am Main. A funeral service will be at 6:00 pm Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald R. Furniss officiating. Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
