Lula Francis Young, 88, of 104 Big Cove Road, Candler, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at her son's home after a brief illness.

Mrs. Young was born in Haywood County and was a daughter of the late Jerry M. and Bessie Cordelia Inman Francis. She was married to Sherman William Young who died in 1984, and was also preceded in death by her adopted son, David W. Young. She was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Cordelia Young Pickens and her husband the Rev. Michael J. Pickens of Milton, FL; two sons, Sherman William Young, Jr. and his wife Connie H. Young of Leicester and Harold Wade Young and his wife Betty H. Young of Candler; two sisters, Hannah Mae Francis Wood of Waynesville and Eunice Francis Hyatt of Candler; one brother, Lawrence Francis of Lincolnton; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Saturday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Michael J. Pickens and Dennis L. Thurman officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Moriah Wesleyan Church Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home.

    Just learned of arrangements for your mother. I’m sorry weren’t able to attend. We have fond memories of days gone by.

    I remember when we used to sing with Mr. Young and Cordelia. I remember Bible school with Sherman Jr. and Harold.

    We recieved many cards of encouragement from Mrs. Lula. Our prayers and condolences to all. God be with you.
