Arden~ Lulu Augusta Poorbaugh Hinkel, 98, of 2533 Hendersonville Road, died Friday, March 12, 2004, at Crescent View Retirement Center. A native of Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, she was daughter of the late James and Susan Elnora Muhlenberg Poorbaugh and wife of the late Herbert Charles Hinkel who died in 1978. Mrs. Hinkel was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Asheville and a member of Presbyterian Women for Life. Surviving is a daughter, Mary Lou McDonald, and her husband Robert, of Sun City West, Arizona; a son, James Calvin Hinkel of Arden; a brother, Lee Poorbaugh of Hendersonville; six grandchildren, Kevin and Brian McDonald, Mary Lou McDonald Santo, Nora McDonald MacBryde, Christine Hinkel and Joanne Hinkel; seven great-grandchildren, Colin and Megan McDonald, Stefanie, Kari and Andrew Santo, Claire McDonald and Catherine MacBryde. Memorial services for Mrs. Hinkel will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, March 16, 2004, in the Campbell Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 40 Church Street with the Rev. Albert G. Peery officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson, Pennsylvania. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm Monday at Groce Funeral Home, Lake Julian. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Mountain Area Hospice PO Box 25338, Asheville, N.C. 28813 or to The Presbyterian Women of First Presbyterian Church, 40 Church Street, Asheville, N.C. 28801.
