Asheville~ LuRetta Miller DeBruhl , 90, of 26 Forestdale Drive went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 24, 2011. A native of Indian Head, Pennsylvania, she was daughter of the late Joseph Franklin and Edna Lillian Miller and was wife of the late Joe Wilde DeBruhl who died in 2001. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Waynette Sappington Brown and Joyce Boone and also by one brother, Joseph Franklin Miller, Jr.. LuRetta retired as a registered nurse. She graduated nursing school at 17 and had to wait an additional year to sit for State Boards to become an RN. She was a member of Kenilworth Presbyterian Church which she dearly loved and was a long-time faithful member. She was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Does. LuRetta was a beloved mother and a faithful and loyal friend and will be missed by all who loved her, especially her beloved kitties. Mrs. DeBruhl is survived by a son, LaMont Miller DeBruhl of Asheville, a brother, William C. Miller of Jackson, Mississippi, four nieces, Lynn Miller and Kathy Evans both of Jackson, Mississippi, Linda Sappington Nelson and Brenda Boone both of Asheville and a nephew, William G. Miller. LuRetta is also survived by a great-niece, Allison Gates Brown, a great-nephew, Charlie J.W. Wilson and by a great-great nephew, Evan Gates all of Asheville. Graveside services for LuRetta will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Green Hills Cemetery with the Revs. Allen P. Smith and Jay K. Rabuck officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. Memorials may be made to Kenilworth Presbyterian Church, 123 Kenilworth Road Asheville, N.C. 28803.   1. I always knew my Great Aunt LuRetta as a funny ‘brighten your day’ kind of woman. When i herd the news of what had happened i just went went to shock. I remember sitting at McDonald’s in Biltmore and the piano would stop so she would get up and go turn it back on. Just by looking at her in the nursing home and the hospital I could just tell that she really was NOT happy.She made a comment in the nursing home that i will never forget,’I wish he would just take me with him now’.I just really loved her and will miss her dearly.   3. LuRetta was a wonderful lady. She was so kind. She was one of the most devoted Does I have ever known. Besides being a Doe she was my friend. We missed her at the meetings but we knew she would have been there if she could. I will miss my sister Doe as well as my friend. God took a good one when he took her. We will miss you. Lamont our prayers are with you.

  6. It’s been nearly 50 years since we played as kids in Kenilworth. Remember peanut butter sandwiches and koolaid your Mom provided. Truly wonderful lady.

LuRetta was a very precious neighbor & friend.She loved getting outside in the spring and summer talking about her flowers.She especially loved her butterfly bush.She wasn’t out much the past few years,but when you did see her, she was always so glad to see you.We will miss her very much.Butch,we are always here for you.
