Luwana Hensley

Luwana (Clemmons) Hensley, 62, of Candler, died Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Mission Hospital.

Born in Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Virginia Pauline (Lyda) Clemmons. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cassandra Poole.

Luwana enjoyed decorating for holidays (even decorating herself!), and she was goofy and silly and loved to make people laugh. She was a friend to and cared about everybody, even strangers. Luwana enjoyed family time more than anything and she had a religious routine of going to dinner and a movie every weekend.

A loving mother, Luwana was an excellent cook who loved to shop. She loved crime shows and reality tv, Tim McGraw’s music, and dancing. Some of her favorite memories were vacations with her daughters, taking lots of pictures, and creating new memories with those she loved. She was full of light and was the life of the party, and will be missed by those whose lives she touched.

Luwana is survived by three daughters, Kelly, Tonya, and Kim Hensley, all of Asheville; a brother, Sammy Clemmons (Kathy) of Candler; two sisters: Martha O’Kelley (Don) of Candler and Robin Russell of Swannanoa; and 5 grandchildren: Christian, Ashley, Dawn, Trinidy, Isaiah, and Gracie.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road. Burial will follow in Sky View Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM prior to the service.
