Mabel Redmon Jolly, 87, passed away Friday, December 30, 2005, at the Western North Carolina Baptist Retirement Home. Mrs. Jolly was born February 8, 1918, on the Biltmore Estate, to the late Rev. George Redmon (a ranger on the Estate) and Georgie Parker Redmon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Thomas Weldon Jolly who died in 1987, and by a brother, Lt. Gordon Redmon, who flew a P38 that crashed during World War II, and sisters Catherine Redmon Case, Meda Redmon Gaddy, and Charlotte Redmon Wright. Mrs. Jolly was a member of Bent Creek Baptist Church and the Golden Circle Class. She was also a member of Biltmore Chapter No. 38, Order of Eastern Star, the West Buncombe Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary, and the Land of the Sky Shrine Ladies’ Auxiliary. Surviving are two children, Brenda Shuford and her husband Harley of Asheville; a son, Thomas Gordon Jolly and his wife Kathy DeBord Jolly of Arlington, TX; six grandchildren, Cynthia Shuford Sampson and her husband Daryl Sampson of Concord, Stan Jolly and Adam Jolly of Arlington, TX, and Hope Jolly Glenn and her husband Thomas of Fort Worth, TX, Michele Jolly and her fiance Marcus Metcalf of Arden, and Sheldon Jolly and his wife Tina Mahan Jolly of Candler; and five great-grandchildren, Timothy Jolly of Arlington, Devan Jolly and Madison Glenn of Fort Worth, TX, Bryce Jolly of Candler and Abby Sampson of Concord.; a sister-in-law, Martha Jolly Emery, a brother-in-law Frank Wright, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Tommy Bridges and Roger Plemmons officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Dick Davis, Benny Banks, Gordon Jolly, Adam Jolly, Naomi Wright, Butch Oxner, and Mike Barrett. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Faulkner, Jim Rickman, Eddie McGlamery, Richard McBrayer, Ruel Austin, David Wright and Thomas Case. Her family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to The Western North Carolina Baptist Retirement Home, 213 Richmond Hill Drive, Asheville, NC 28806, or to the Senior Class of Bent Creek Baptist Church, 1554 Brevard Road, Asheville, NC 28806.

    We were very sorry to hear about Aunt Mabel. We have so many great memories of her and Uncle Thomas and all our family gatherings. She was the last of Mama and Papa Redmons family here on Earth, but now their family is together again with Mama, Papa and Uncle Gordon. Our thoughts, prayers and love are with you in this time.

  4. Ms Trouble I will truly miss from the bottom of my heart. Her smile, her laughter would light the night skies. She will always be my trouble. But she in a far better place than we are. Making Jesus smile as she did all of us. My prays are with you all.
