Mack Edward Madzinski III, age 91, of Fletcher, North Carolina, died peacefully in his sleep on November 6, 2022, after a long, full and happy life. He was born on March 9, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Mack Edward Madzinski II and Helen (Paszek) Madzinski.
Mack attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he made lifelong friends as a member of the Theta Xi fraternity and met the love of his life, Joyce Elaine Hanson. They were married in 1952 (after college) and enjoyed 70 wonderful years together, raising 7 children while primarily living in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Plantation, Florida, before retiring to Fletcher, North Carolina. He was a proud member of the U.S. Marines Corps, an active member of the U.S. Navy League, and a devout Catholic. Mack enjoyed a fulfilling career working as an accountant and traveled the world with his wife and family.
His family meant everything to him. His spirit of generosity and hospitality were evidenced by his welcoming anybody and everybody with open arms into his home. He loved jigsaw puzzles, Christmas caroling, all sweets and a good party. He raised his children and grandchildren to appreciate kindness, traditions, humor and sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs.
He is preceded in death by his son, James Joseph Madzinski; and survived by his wife, Joyce E. Hanson, Seattle, Washington, along with his children: Carrie Stevens (Tim), San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Kim Wissinger (Gordon), Asheville, North Carolina; Cricket Madzinski (Bruce), Sapphire, North Carolina; Kitty Flaherty (Brian), Seattle, Washington; Cayce Staruk (Greg), Cape Coral, Florida; Mack E. Madzinski IV, Asheville, North Carolina; 9 grandchildren: Carly, Crystal, Meghan, Kristen, Evan, Clara, David, Hanna and Haden; and countless others who Mack considered extended family.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of Mack’s wonderful caregivers in his later months, both in North Carolina and Mexico, where he passed away.
A burial mass for the family was held at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Arden, North Carolina, on January 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher. North Carolina.
Groce Funeral Home’s Lake Julian team is assisting the family.

Thanks so much Allain, hope all’s well with you! Carrie
So blessed to have known Mack and Joyce and this beautiful family. He taught me so much and led me to my career while always being so kind, funny, and loving! I am grateful to be a part of the Madzinski’s. You are all in my heart and thoughts 🙏🏼💔
Thanks Diana!
Love knowing and hearing about the Madzinski family my entire life as Mack was a fraternity brother of my Dad.
I met Mack and Joyce as they were transitioning to N. Carolina from FL and learned that they too had had careers in Accounting/Tax, and so our common careers forged an immediate bond. I’ll always remember his ever-present smile and quiet demeanor. So sorry for your loss…make he RIP.
