Horse Shoe ~ Madeline Elizabeth Tweedie, 82, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at her residence.
Madeline was born in Framingham, MA and was the daughter of the late Albert and Helen Madeline Wilkins. In addition to her parents Mrs. Tweedie was predeceased by her brothers, Keith and Dana Wilkins.
Mrs. Tweedie is survived by her husband, John "Jack" Sawyer Tweedie of 60 plus years. Madeline and Jack spent many happy years on their "petting farm" in Brookline, New Hampshire where Madeline was a Registrar at the N.H. Votech College in Nashua. Retiring to Horseshoe 12 years ago, they enjoyed many wonderful years of traveling, including trips to the Grand Canyon and to the ancestral home in Scotland.
Mrs. Tweedie is also survived by three daughters, Sherrie "Tweedie" Reed of Horseshoe, Bonnie "Tweedie" Hyland and her husband John of Blountville, TN and Robin "Tweedie" Mazzola and her husband Richard of Charleston, N.H.; three grandchildren, Bekah Mazzola and her partner Doug, John "Jack" Reed of Kansas and Jen Reed and her fiance Bryan Mauney of Marion, NC; two great grandchildren, Aaron Mazzola and Mason Mauney and many special friends that were formed in "Senior Friendships" while in Hendersonville. Madeline and Jack loved the dinners and lunches and those close ties will remain forever.
No services are planned and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice.
I cherish a fond remembrance of Madeline. When my husband Ron and I were new to western North Carolina a number of years ago, Madeline—and Jack, too—offered a friendly welcome and reassurance that we had, indeed, found a home here. We met at UUFH and I regret I have lost touch. My condolences to Jack and those who loved her—hers was a life well lived. Roxana White
