Mae Ledford O'Donnell, 98, of Poverty Branch Rd., Barnardsville, died on Monday, December 7, 2009, at Memorial Campus, Mission Hospitals. A native of Yancey Co., Mrs. O'Donnell was a daughter of the late Waites and Myra Hensley Ledford. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Edward O'Donnell. Mrs. O'Donnell was a member of Barnardsville Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother. She was taken care of by her devoted daughter, Margaret Shepherd. She is survived by her daughters, Kate Bayliss and husband Bronson, of Weaverville, Eleanor Starnes and husband Guy, Margaret Shepherd and husband Bill, and Jonnie Lang and husband Alan, all of Barnardsville; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A graveside service for Mrs. O'Donnell will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Riverside Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Ackerman officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave., and at other times will be at the home. Memorials may be made to Barnardsville Baptist Church, PO Box 8, Barnardsville, NC 28709.
