Maebur Reece Jones

May 31, 1928 ~ February 21, 2018
Resided in:
Asheville, North Carolina
Maebur Reece Jones, 89, left us suddenly and unexpectedly Wednesday, February 21, 2018.
A native of Clay County, NC, she was the eldest daughter of Arthur and Doris Reece of Pinelog. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Robert Earl Jones; her three sons, Bob E. Jones, Dan Jones, and Ken Jones, all of Asheville; and her brothers, Buck Reece and Rex Reece.
Maebur was deeply devoted to her family and friends and created a loving home in Asheville, NC, for over 30 years before retiring to Keowee Key Lakeside Community, SC, for almost 30 years, where she developed many lasting friendships. She loved her lake and the community deeply and was heartbroken to have to leave, which she did only recently in a move to Givens Estates in Asheville to be closer to family.
Maebur found happiness in her family and defined for them the meaning of unconditional love. A loving wife and mother to her four children and their families, she made everything look effortless with quiet grace and unflagging understanding and encouragement—a steady and calming presence that was a comfort to all who knew her. She suffered unimaginable losses later in life and it is our greatest hope that she is now dancing with her beloved husband and the sons who left us much too soon.
Maebur is survived by her husband, Dick Bauer, of Richmond, VA; daughter, Cindy Corley and son-in-law, Rob Corley, of Arden; daughters-in-law, Sandie Jones, of Arden, and Robin Hitch, of Whittier, NC; grandchildren, Simon Jones, of Asheville, Justin Wildcatt, of Whittier, Amber Jones, of Sylva, NC, Jerami Jones and wife, Dawn Treneman-Jones, of Asheville, Pom Chandrakulsiri Hunt and husband, Andrew Hunt, of Los Angeles CA, Logan Corley, of Asheville, and Steven Corley and Fiona Baker, of Mountainview, CA; four great-grandchildren, Cyrus Lanning, MaKenah Wilson, Dalton Wilson, and Finli Hill; and her siblings, Alice Bourne, Lenora Caldwell (Charlie), Max Reece (Mary), and Opal Rose (Frank) of Clay County.
The immediate family will hold a private service, but would welcome family and friends to drop in at a Celebration of Maebur's Life, which will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 2nd at the Biltmore Lake Clubhouse (80 Lake Drive, Biltmore Lake, NC 28715), to share stories and fond memories.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center for their support and loving care of Maebur and the family during her final hours and asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Jones Family Memorial Scholarship Fund (c/o the Arden, NC Rotary Club Foundation, P.O. Box 268, Arden, NC 28704), CarePartners John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, Elmcroft of Chesterfield’s Heartland Village, Richmond, VA (where Dick, her husband, is a resident), or the charity of your choice.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden is assisting the family.
The time was all too short but we loved being Maebur’s neighbor at Givens Estate. We will miss her smile, her sense of humor and her presence in our lives. May she Rest In Peace.
Cindy and Family,
Having worked at EA years ago, I knew your mother and family, and I remember her being a loving mother and wife. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time and may you find comfort and peace.
CINDY, WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR MOTHER AS SUCH A FINE AND
WONDERFUL PERSON. GLAD YOU COULD SPEND THE TIME YOU DID
WITH HER ESPECIALLY RECENTLY, BUT ALL ALONG THE WAY.
KEN AND I HAVE GREAT MEMORIES OF ALL OUR GOLF TRIPS TOGETHER WITH SHE AND YOUR DAD AS WELL AS LOCAL ACTIVITIES.
OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU AND FAMILY MEMBERS.

Maebur was a dear sweet lady that we at the Hair Loft consider a friend, not just a client. She had many hardships during our time knowing her but she also told us many stories of her family and their traditions and travels that were dear to her. She will be dearly missed and we pray the family will find peace in the good memories.
Cindy, I will sure miss your Mama’s beautiful smile and sweet voice. May all of you find comfort and peace knowing where she is and that she is rejoicing with God.
