Maidia Rheney

Maidia Strickland Rheney, 88, passed away Monday, July 23, 2018. A native of Mobile, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late James Edwin Strickland, Sr. and Marie Cornelius Havard Strickland and was also preceded in death by her four siblings, Neala, Mavoneen, Regina and J.E. “Bubba” Strickland, Jr. She also was preceded in death by her former husband and close friend, Theodore B. Rheney, Sr. Mrs. Rheney was a former airline flight attendant and an antique dealer. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Nativity. She is survived by her daughter, Renee Rheney of Fletcher, and her son, Dr. Ted Rheney, his wife Cate and their sons, Luke and Jack. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Green Hills Cemetery, 25 New Leicester Highway, Asheville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, PO Box 8195, Asheville, NC 28814. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
