Marcelene "Marky" Warren Jackson, 88, of Candler, went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2016. Mrs. Jackson was one of seven children born to Ulus and Effie Watts Warren. Mrs. Jackson began her social work career with Family and Children's Services in Screven County, Georgia. She worked the last 25 years of her career with the Buncombe County Department of Social Services, concentrating in adoptions, where she rose to the level of Supervisor of Family and Children's Services. She retired in 1992. Mrs. Jackson held an undergraduate degree from the Woman's College of Georgia and a Master's Degree from Western Carolina University. She also worked with her husband, Robert L. Jackson, for many years in Gospel Ministry. They founded the Living Hope Christian Fellowship, which is still active in supporting local, national and international benevolences and charities. Mrs. Jackson's main work in the church had been with music. She and her husband sang together over the years. Most recently, she has served as pianist for the Beaverdam Freewill Baptist Church in Candler. Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, David Leslie Warren and Thurlow R. Warren and wife Lorema; three sisters, Maybre Warren, Olivia Stanberry and husband Fred, and Elizabeth Clark and husband Homer. Mrs. Jackson is survived by her husband, Robert L. Jackson; a sister, Lillian Martin and late husband Delbert; two children, Robert Philip Jackson and wife Marla, and Maria Marcelene Jackson Atkins and husband Van Atkins; six grandchildren, Ashtyn, Ariana, Tyler, Dayton, Noah and Hunter; along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jackson loved music, flowers, and people. She spent her life trying to make life better for those less fortunate. In everything, she believed in fairness. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church, 14 Piney Mountain Church Road, Candler, NC. It will be officiated by Revs. Kenneth Ingle, Leon Stewart, and Robert Haynie. Burial will follow in the church's cemetery, where her ancestors have been buried since the 1800's. Her family will receive friends for one and a half hours beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends. Flowers are accepted and appreciated, or memorials may be made to Living Hope Christian Fellowship, PO Box 1502, Enka, NC 28728. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

  1. To my dear neice, Maria and family, so sorry you lost your mom. I know it tears your heart out having to say goodbye to your dear mom. Have faith in what the Bible promises us, that Jesus will come again and call forth all those who have went to their grave loving him. He will take both them and the living back with him to spend eternity with him. Lean on the Lord Jesus during this difficult time, he cares about your grief and pain.   3. Dear Maria, My condolences go out to you and all your family. It is never easy to lose your mother. I will always be eternally grateful to her and your dad just for being your mom and dad. For all the love they poured out on you. She was the answer to my many years of prayer for you. Though I never got to meet her in this life, I do so much look forward to meeting her in heaven. May she rest in peace for a life well lived. She will surely have many stars in her crown due to loving service to others for Jesus sake.
