Margaret G. "Willie" Berry, 74, of Beaverdam Loop Rd., Candler, died on Thursday, November 25, 2010, at Mission Hospital. A Haywood Co. native, Mrs. Berry lived most of her life in Buncombe Co. She was a daughter of the late Rufus Lee and Julia Mae Smith Greenarch. Mrs. Berry is survived by her husband, Edward "Danny" Berry; daughters, Elaine Smathers, and Dawn Conard, both of Candler; sons, Ronnie Smathers, of Fletcher, Terry Smathers, of Mills River, and Larry Erwin, of Candler; sister, Dorothy Rogers, of Waynesville; brother, Keith Greenarch, of Whittier; 13 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service for Mrs. Berry will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.

  1. My heart goes out to this wonderful family. Just looking at Margaret’s picture reminds of the days she came to Salisbury and visited Robert and Dawn. Always a smile, never felt like a stranger with her. She will be missed by all. What a glorius day it will be when we are reunited in our Heavenly Home.

  9. I was really shocked to hear of Margarets death. I eat breakfast every morning at the Miami restarant and she was always there. We became friends. It will not be the same with her gone. My prayers are with all of the family.
