Margaret Bryant Nash Furness, 91, of Marietta, Ga. died Wednesday, September 28, 2011.
She was born to the late James Albert and Myrtle Bryant Nash, Aug. 17, 1920, in Chatham, Va. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
Margaret graduated from Elon College, N.C. in 1941 with a BA in Business. She married her college sweetheart, the late Thomas Adrian Furness, also in 1941, and they lived in Enka, NC. Margaret served as Executive Secretary to the Buncombe County Attorney, to the Chairman of the County Commissioners and to North Carolina's 11th District U. S. Congressional Representative. Later she worked in the Legal Department of Akzo Nobel Inc., a multinational corporation headquartered in Asheville. She retired in 1986.
Margaret was passionate about playing bridge, her sons and the American Revolution. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a direct descendant of Colonel Philip Marsteller, Aide to and close personal friend of George Washington. Margaret and her son Terence were participants in the 1999 Bicentennial Re-enactment of George Washington's Funeral at historic Mt. Vernon. Margaret was a member of the Oak Forest Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her two sons: Thomas Adrian Furness III of Seattle, WA., and Terence Nash Furness, of Marietta, Ga. She also is survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Forest Presbyterian Church followed by a reception. The family will receive visitors at the Church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. before the service.
Your Mother was a dear person, I became acquainted with her at American Enka. She was so very proud of her boys. Please accept my

My Mother became friends with your mother at several meetings concering Enka High School. She was a Lovely lady full of grace and a true Southern Belle. Since we too have lost our Mom we can certainly join in your sorrow. Our thoughts are with you and all of her friends and family.
