Margaret Cecilia ("C") Johnson Johnson died peacefully Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at The Oaks of Sweeten Creek after a period of declining health. She was born in Asheville on January 9, 1932, the only child of the late Cecil A. and Opal Moffitt Johnson. She graduated from Valley Springs in 1950, attended Blanton's Business College and married Joseph A. Johnson on September 5, 1951. Joe and "C" had five children; Terry, Michael, Sandy, Cecil, and Patty and raised their children in the house where she grew up on Mills Gap Road. "C" worked for the Buncombe County Tax Collector for 35 years. She was active in reviving the Busbee Community Club in the late seventies and volunteered for the Commission on Aging, where she was awarded "Volunteer of the Year" for assisting those in need by completing Income Tax Returns, aiding in property tax issues and delivering food to community members. "C" loved her annual trips to the beach with her best friend Betty and their children grew up together. She and Joe loved traveling with their niece and nephew, Gail and Joe, they traveled all across the country and she always looked forward to visiting them in Montana. She was an excellent cook, a life-long democrat, and she had a quick wit that will surely be missed. She loved and was genuinely proud of each of her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was pre-deceased by one daughter, Terry Elaine Johnson Grant, (1952 – 2000) and her husband of 54 years, Joseph A. Johnson, (1926 - 2006.) She is survived by her children, Joseph Michael Johnson (Sharon), Sandra Kathleen Johnson Lawrence (Jerry), Cecil Alexander Johnson and Patty Carmella Johnson (Ken Walker); four grandchildren, Kimmie, Ashley, Amy, and Tommy and four great grandchildren. "C" and Joe will be interred at the Memory Garden Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in a private ceremony. The family is grateful to the entire staff of the Oaks of Sweeten Creek for the loving care provided to our mother. Flowers or live plants will be lovingly accepted or contributions may be made to the Democratic Party, PO Box 155, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. Family and friends will gather from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, May 22 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
