Plantation, Florida

Arden, North Carolina
Margaret “Peggy” Hamilton DiYorio, 66, of Arden, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 in Flat Rock after a long battle with cancer.
Peggy was from Fort Lauderdale, FL, where she attended Plantation High School prior to attending and graduating from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. She was the wife of the late Nicholas “Nick” DiYorio of Arden, and the daughter of Terry and the late Suzanne Hamilton. She and Nick were married for over 40 years before he passed away suddenly in 2021.
Peggy worked as a Teacher’s Assistant at Glen Arden Elementary School for over 27 years. During that time, she made a positive impact on over 2,700 students, in addition to many parents and teachers. Many parents and children will remember Mrs. DiYorio’s kind words and caring attention in the car rider line, her cursive lessons, and her work on the school yearbook. She treasured the handmade cards and gifts that her students made for her over the years and displayed them proudly in her home.
Outside of her work at the school, Peggy loved to volunteer, and spent many years actively involved with the Cub Scouts (Pack 72), Boy Scouts Troop 26, T.C. Roberson Band, the American Legion and other various groups that her husband volunteered with. She could always be counted on to help with a good cause.
Peggy was a caring mother to her sons Michael and Brian, and daughters Nicholi and Alondra. Her acts of kindness knew no bounds, from homemade cakes for her children, family, and friends on birthdays throughout the years, to thoughtful gifts and acts of service for neighbors and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her father, Terry, her sister, Aileen (Matt) and brother, Scott (Hilda); brother-in-law John (Linda); sisters-in-law Angela, Jan and Pat; sons Michael (Mary) and Brian (Sarah); daughters Nicholi (JJ) and Alondra; grandchildren Isaac, Dakota (Toni), Maggi, Gabe, Julia and Camilla; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special friends left to cherish her memory include Sallie, Katherine, Vicki, Julie, Isabelle, Kenneth (Shana), John, Carl, and Devon. She will be met in heaven by her husband Nick, mother Suzanne, brothers-in-law Tom, Jack, Joe and many loving pets.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 26th from 6-7:30pm at Groce Funeral Home on Long Shoals. The funeral service will be held at St. Barnabas Church in Arden on Saturday the 27th at 12:30pm, and the burial service will be held at the WNC State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain on Monday the 29th at 12:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Auxiliary, PO Box 9273, Asheville, NC 28815, Boy Scouts Troop 26 (Donations can be made at the Celebration of Life at Camp Stephens following the Funeral Service at St. Barnabas) or to the Mayo Clinic through https://philanthropy.mayoclinic.org/.
The best way to honor Peggy’s life is to remember a time she made you laugh or comforted you in a time of need. Do the same for someone else.

Peggy’s memory will live on! She was truly a remarkable woman and loved by so many! I saw her grow up and she will be greatly missed! My sympathy and love to all her family. She always called me Aunt Norma! Loved that!
I was blessed to know Peggy from my adolescent years up into my adult years. Blessed again to know she was a huge part of my husband’s life in boy scouts, good friends with my in laws and even after all that, she helped teach all three of my children at Glen Arden Elem. Peggy is and always will be, incredibly missed. Praying for family and friends. Love to all.

We were sorry to hear of Peggy’s passing. She was such a kind and caring person. When we first moved into our house, she came right over with a basketful of goodies to welcome us into the neighborhood. What a wonderful kindness we were blessed with. We will miss her thoughtful spirit.
