Margaret Ruby Powell

Margaret Ruby Powell, 90, died Friday, November 7, 2014, at the John F. Keever, Jr. Hospice Solace Center. Miss Powell was born in Asheville and was a daughter of the late L.G. and Daisy Smith Powell. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Faye Thurlow. She had earned a Masters of Education and a Masters of Divinity and had been ordained into the ministry by the Wesleyan Church. She taught school at Old Fort, Sandy Mush and David Millard schools as well as serving missions for many years in Kentucky, Arizona and South Dakota. Surviving are her sisters, Clara Chandler, with whom she made her home, and Ruth Beyler; brother, The Rev. C. Glenn Powell and wife Ruby; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Rev. Josh Tietje will officiate at a memorial service to be held at a later date at the Asheville Wesleyan Church, where she was a member.
