Miss Marie Louise Artus passed away peacefully at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, Tuesday June 29th, following a brief illness.
She was born Feb, 26th, 1920 and celebrated her 90th birthday this year. She was the daughter of the late Eudore Henri and Julia Palmyre Artus. She was also preceded in death by a sister Suzanne Artus Grant; brothers, Eudore E. Artus, Jules L. Artus and Albert E. Artus.
She and her brother Jules, were owners of Art's Garden & Pet Shop in downtown Asheville for many years. Following the closing of the shop, she was employed with Jesse Israel & Sons, for 16 years, retiring in 2003. She was a member of the Basilica of St. Lawrence, D.M., Asheville.
Marie loved gardening and all of God's creatures. Her kind, gentle spirit, love for her family and friends, will always be in our hearts.
She is survived by her loving sister-in-law and best friend, Ms. Theodolinde Artus, with whom she made her home for the past 64 years. She is also survived by her nephew Albert J. Artus and wife Dianne; great nephew, Gray Artus and wife Christy, their children Greg, Danielle and Christian; and great niece Angie Artus Cooke and her husband Steve, and their children Austin, Landon and Madison.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 2 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home, 856 Tunnel Rd, Asheville, with the Rev. Steven Cooke officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 pm to 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, PO Box 25331, Asheville, NC 28813.
We will
always remember Marie as a kind, loving lady and considered it an honor to be her friend.

My daughter, Lucretia Worley and I worked with Marie at Israel’s for a number of years and loved her. What a sweet lady and always had a friendly smile. God has received an angel.
