Marilyn Charlene Swann, 71, left this earthly realm to claim her angel wings in Heaven alongside Jesus on August 22, 2024.
Marilyn, also lovingly known as “Charlie,” was born on December 9, 1952, in Asheville, NC, to Neal and Vivian Swann. Charlene, spent many years working for Burlington before it closed and Matthew’s Ford before assuming a position with the family business, working alongside her father and brother at Swann & Swann Carpets in West Asheville. After working many years with MilkCo, Inc. Charlene spent her retirement between her hometown and on the sandy beaches in Florida.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her father, the Rev. Neal Swann and many grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She is survived by son, Jeremy Shelton, of Asheville; daughter, Heather Meece and son-in-law Josh Meece, grandsons, Brayden Meece and Kameron Meece, of Florida; son, Gregory Shelton, of Asheville; mother, Vivian Swann, of Asheville; sister, Trina Case (husband Jeffrey), of Asheville; brother, Danny Swann (wife Sara) of Black Mountain; brother, Tracy Swann of Asheville; and many other relatives and friends.
The light from her soul touched everyone in her path. She never turned anyone away and provided endless support for those that called upon her no matter the time of day or night. Charlene fought strongly against a long battle with cancer but was never one to complain. She tried her best to comfort those around her, even in her time of need.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the team of wonderful caregivers and nurses, led by Wendy at Four Seasons Hospice. We know she is walking the shores of Heaven leaving her footprints in the sand.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.

Sister, I miss our special times together, our nightly prayer and giving you a snuggle kiss. You were so brave throughout your journey. Heaven has been blessed but our hearts still ache. You will be remembered and never forgotten, you were our precious gift from God.
I thank him for our memories, will see you again. Love you forever.
I was leaving one day and she wasn’t talking and as I left I told her not to tell Trina but she was my favorite sister and she gave me a little smile. So many memories I had with her and cherish them all. I will miss her dearly but will see her again soon.
Sweet Gig,
Oh, how you will be missed. My family and I will always treasure the talks and laughs we shared together. Sending the family our love, condolences & prayers.

Mom your time with us was cut too short. I was never prepared for the void that I have felt since you left. I don’t think YOU understood the impact you had on people. The world got a little darker without your light shining here but Heaven needed you more and we don’t understand why. Until we one day again hear you humming of hymns, we will keep your memories tight 💔
My precious cousin, what an empty place I feel in my heart since you went away. I can only say you were strong & brave through the battle you faced. I am thankful most of all for the days we spent together in those last weeks, watching you enjoy your new ring & eating one of your favorite things, watermelon. I will meet you in the morning over There!!!
Charlene,
Thank you for being my Other Mother. On behalf of all of my family, we will miss you dearly. You will never be forgotten and we will all keep your memory alive until we meet again. Although our hearts are broken here without you, we take comfort in knowing God brought you to your Heavenly Home. The most gorgeous new angel in the skies. We Love You so much.

I am sure that when Charlene arrived in Heaven, my mama, her aunt Willa Mae said, “well there comes Charlene” 🤗, let me show you around dear. That just makes my heart smile, we will miss you cousin but I know you will not suffer anymore and are healed forever more! I love you! We will see you soon!! Raynae
I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. Charlene was a wonderful lady. I’m so glad I got to know her. Charlene you were a great friend. Love always Pam Scott.
Vivian, Trina, Danny, Tracy and family, I’m so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
The Bible tells us that “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints”. Charlene tried to lead her life as one of God’s saints. As we all know, grief follows the death of someone we love, and where there is grief, there is great love. She was so loved. But how comforting to know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord – where sorrow, pain and tears will be no more. Life’s scars will be no more. For her to be home, we know the call came from God alone. Bless her family in their time of sorrow. Prayers of comfort coming your way. Love, Darlene and George
