Marjorie Eleanor Smith

    Marjorie Eleanor Perry Smith, 84, of 12 Hidden Forest, Candler,
died Wednesday, November 4, 1998, in an Asheville  health care center.
                          
     Mrs. Smith was born in Cottageville, SC, was a daughter of the late
Henry K. and Hattie Sauls Perry and was married to Mendel L. Smith, Sr.,
who died in 1994.  She was a former member of the Eastern Star and was a
member of Cottageville United Methodist Church.  She had lived in
Buncombe County for the past four years.

     She is survived by two daughters, Carey S. Justice of Walterboro, SC
and Patricia S. Queen of Candler;  three sons, David L. 'Jack' Smith of
Olar, SC, Mendel L. Smith, Jr. of Jacksonboro, SC, and Joseph Rhett
Smith of Greenville, SC;  ten grandchildren, including Carey L. Barrier-
Miller and Bobby Mendel Barrier, and numerous great-grandchildren.

     Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Saturday in the chapel of Herndon
Funeral Home, Walterboro, SC, with burial to follow at Cottageville
Cemetery.  Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at
the funeral home.

     A local memorial service will be at 6:00 pm Friday at Montmorenci
United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Duckworth officiating.

     Groce Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.
