Marvin Ben Sharpe, 78, of Leicester, died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at St. Joseph's Campus, Mission Hospitals. A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late Came and Mary Ward Sharpe. He was also preceded in death by brothers Winfred, Douglas, and Cecil Sharpe. Mr. Sharpe was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Western Chapel United Methodist Church, and VFW #891. He is survived by his wife, Imogene L. Sharpe; a daughter, Nancy Sharpe Smith and her husband, Leo, of Asheville; a son, Alan Sharpe, of Leicester; grandchildren Kyle Smith and Zane Smith; sisters, Bessie Sams, Mabel Ball and her husband, Dennis, Margie Sharpe, and Charlotte Sharpe; and a brother, Homer Sharpe and his wife, Diana. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Revs. Ed Worley, Fred Sibley, and Brian Buckner officiating. Interment with Military Honors provided by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard will follow at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery in Black Mountain. His family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Ave. A special thanks to Dr. James Hoer and the staff of Carolina Internal Medicine, Dr. Charles Bryan and the staff of Cancer Center, and to the staff at SeCu Cancer Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Western Chapel Cemetery Fund, c/o Brenda McIntosh, PO Box 1657, Leicester, NC 28748, and/or to the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Marlene Weaver, 373 North Turkey Creek Rd., Leicester, NC 28748.

  15. I was a Sister to Kenneth Freeman, I’ve heard him speak highly of you-all many times. He lost his battle with cancer sooner than we wanted, but God didn’t see fit for him to suffer,so we had to accept that the Lord answered his prayer not to be a burden to us. This was a prayer of mine, for him not to have to lay & suffer. My thoughts & Prayers go out for You-ALL during this loss.
