Marvin Lee Hollifield, Jr., 67, of Asheville, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the Elizabeth House.

A native of Buncombe Co., Marvin was a son of the late Marvin Lee Hollifield, Sr. and Geneva Gibson Hollifield. He retired as the Assistant Director of the Buncombe County Board of Elections.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Roller Hollifield; daughters, Faith Krause (Paul) and Malinda Hollifield (Sean); son, Brandon Hollifield (Rebecca); 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sisters, Anita Jenkins (Billy) and Nancy Dowell (Todd); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Seth Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

  1. Little Marvin the family called him, because his dad was big Marvin. He was my cousin. I remember he had lots of energy! He always had a big smile just like his dad. I am so sorry. He died too young! Thinking of the family and sending prayers!

  8. My name is Eddie Howell. I played football with Marvin, and graduated with him from Robbinsville High School in 1973. He kept us all laughing with his antics, on and off the field. I am sorry to hear of his passing, and will always remember him as a good guy, and good friend!
