Skyland - Mary Alice Fisher, 60, of Skyland, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2000 at Memorial Mission Hospital from complications following heart surgery.

A native of Henderson County, she was the daughter of Mildred J. Wooten of Asheville and of the late William Ernest Lewis, Sr. and was also preceded in death by a son, Randy Penland, a sister, Mildred Virginia Savitski and a brother, William Ernest Lewis, Jr.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, David P. Fisher; daughter, Barbara Jean Penland of Monroe; three sons, Bobby Ray Penland, Jr. of Charlotte, Larry Eugene Penland and his wife Stacy, of Monroe, Michael Lee Penland of Asheville; a step-son, Michael Ray Fisher of Fletcher; four grandchildren, LeRae Hipps , JoShawna McAbee, Christopher Penland and Matthew Penland, all of Monroe; two step- grandchildren, Jonathan Worley of Leicester, Erica Mills of Fletcher; a great-grandchild, AlexZandria Hipps of Monroe; three sisters, Shirley Jean Taeuber of Abingdon, Maryland, Judy Williams and Carolyn Owens, both of Arden and a brother, Robert E. Lewis of Arden.

Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Saturday in the Shepherd Memorial park conducted by the Rev. Roy W. Waldroup.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road.
