Mary Alice Howell, 69, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at the CarePartners Solace Center.
Mrs. Howell was born in Marlborough County, SC to Edmond Steen and the late Virginia Lee Driggers Steen. She owned and operated a beauty salon and was former president of the National Guard Auxiliary Organization. She was an active member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny Troy Howell; daughter, Mary Beth Huckabee; sons, Troy Pruitt Howell and Samuel Lee Pruitt, Jr. (Kelly); grandchildren, Samuel Lee Pruitt III, McKayla Pruitt, Taylor Leigh Huckabee and Trevor Douglas; great-granddaughter Marleigh Rayne; sisters, Virginia Diane, Donna Lynn, Patricia Gail and Sylvia, and brother Thomas.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Veronita Alvord officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, 725 Asbury Road, Candler, NC 28715.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
So sorry for your loss, Mary was a wonderful friend and will truly be missed. I thank God for placing her in my life we had many years and wonderful memories.
She loved her family with all her heart, and was always willing to help others. To know her was to love her. Her last year’s was hard ,but she always worried about others .
She’s home now ,no more pain one of God’s Angel’s to watch over each of you.

My sincere sympathy to all of the family of Mary Howell. My heart is so saddened by her passing, but I know she is in better place relieved of the pain and suffering she endured for many years. Mary was a beautiful person, outwardly and inwardly, and treated her clients and others with whom she came in contact with kindness and respect. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Our sympathy to Mary’s dear family. So sorry for the loss of such a wonderful Mother,Sister,and friend to all who knew her. I worked for her and have so many good memories of her and how she loved and cared for her family , clients and friends. Mary will be missed by so many people whose lives she touched. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time of loss. Mary was a beautiful person and loved by many.
Mary was not only a hairdresser, she was friend, confidant and sometimes even counsellor. I, and I am sure most others loved her very much. The last time I saw Mary was out at Lee’s store and she gave me a big bear hug. I have missed her so much since she moved to N. C.

John,Leigh Beth and Kelly. am so saddened to hear of Mary Alice’s passing.She was being prayed for when i got the news.I loved her like a sister.We share a past since the early70’s. She loved her family.She was well loved by all her friends back in the Marlboro County area.We all are going to miss her,but no more suffering.Her and Jolene is catching up and with my ole friend Benny Who she thought alot of.RIP Mary Alice.May GOD give you all the comforting peace to get through this.Jimmy Moody
