Mary Alrie Howell Hunter, 85, died Saturday, February 20, 2016, at her home. A native of South Bend, IN, Mrs. Hunter was a daughter of the late Robert Herman and Eva Elizabeth Shroat Howell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph William Hunter, and sister, Annie Silvers. She had been a member of Macedonia Baptist Church for 36 years and more recently was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for 30 years, and was a choir member at both churches. Mrs. Hunter is survived by her daughters, Nola Teague (John), Cynthia Sturgill (James), Regina Williams (Tony), and Elaine Farmer (Gary); sisters, Alice Huskins (C.D.), Margaret Griffin (Bill), Shirley Keyes (Howard), and Betty Robinson (Bob); brother-in-law, Ray Silvers; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. The funeral service for Mrs. Hunter will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Mount Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Interment will follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

  2. A true lady who always smiled. Have know Alrie since I was a baby and went to Grandma Roxie Rhymer’s down the road from Ralph and Alrie. Never heard a bad word against her and all those years at Macadonia will never be forgotten. Love and prayers to the family. May God Bless.

I will never forget the times I spent with the family growing up and how wonderful your family was to me.
