Mary Ann Dover Greenwood, 82, wife of the late Bob Greenwood went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2014. Mary Ann, who was affectionately known as "Mother" or "Mimi" was born on February 22, 1932 to the late Tom and Pearl Dover. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Bryson. Mrs. Greenwood and her husband Bob owned the original New Asheville Speedway. They also owned a dairy farm for many years in Fairview. After the death of her husband Mary became a successful banker at First Union. She won several top performer awards. Mrs. Greenwood is survived by her son Robert "Tink" Greenwood and by her daughters Glenda (Ray) Bailey and Kim (Chip) Plemmons. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren that adored their "Mother/Mimi". She is also survived by her sister Mildred (Ray) Melton and Joan Rice and by her special neighbor, Clara Radcliff. "Mother" lived for her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her world, living every moment to ensure her family was taken care of and deeply loved. She always thought of others and never took time to think of herself. She was always telling those she loved to "take care and God bless and keep the little angels with you". The family would like to express a very special thank you to Dr. James Andrews, Hospice, nurse Berta and Antionette Morris. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Long Shoals Rd., with the Rev. Dr. Michael McFarland and the Rev. Keith Watkins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I First met Mimi on a camping trip to Cherokee when I was 5 or 6 years old. I next met her on her farm where she taught me to love strawberries dipped in sugar. I still eat my strawberries that way today. Mimi treated me like a grand-daughter growing up and Amy Grant’s song, Mimi’s house described her to a t. Mimi was strong, she was a fighter and she was the strongest Matriarch I have ever known. Rest In Peace Sweet Mimi! I know your family is proud of the fight you put up and the life you lived and the life you taught them to live. My thoughts and prayers are with all of my Greenwood Family! I Love you much!

  2. Dear Greenwood Siblings and Grands, just want to say you are going to miss that little Matriarch of your family. I used to drive an elderly cousin to First Union on Merrimon Ave. and he always commented on the little lady that was so helpful to him that always greeted everyone with a smile. Keep all the wonderful memories you have of her close to your heart and she will always be with you, May God grant you peace and grace in the days ahead.

    Love in Christ,
    Ethel Jacobson ‘Jake’
