Mary Ann McCoy Hannah, 81, of Robinson Cove Road, Big Sandy Mush, Leicester, died on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Pisgah Manor.
Mary Ann was born in Petaluma, CA, to the late Robert Mervin and Thelma Fredricksen McCoy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Rogers Hannah, in 2017, and a brother, Rev. John Robinson. After finishing her schooling in Petaluma, she attended a business college in San Francisco and was employed by United Parcel Service for a number of years.
She is survived by two sons, Michael James Hannah and wife Lori, of Inman, SC, and Steven Gregory Hannah and wife Janet, of Conover, NC; grandson, Zachary Ryan Hannah, of Conover; great-grandson, James William Hannah; brother, Robert M. McCoy and wife Sally, of Petaluma; sister, Roberta Robinson Danzig, of San Francisco; and many nieces and nephews.
As a military wife, Mary Ann lived in many parts of the world until she and her husband retired to Manassas, VA, where she worked in the commercial underwriting department of Safeco Insurance for 12 years. She was later employed with EG&G, a government contractor specializing in nuclear submarines. She moved to the Asheville area in 1993 and became active in community service. For many years she served as president of the Leicester Homemakers Club and was a member of the Asheville Quilt Guild, the Leicester Garden Club, and Friends of the Leicester Library, serving as secretary and chairperson of the book sales. She was also a member of Big Sandy United Methodist Church, where she was the trustee and treasurer of the cemetery fund.
The family would like to extend much appreciation to Rosie Cannon for her many years of kindness and caring. She was a good friend.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 9 at Big Sandy United Methodist Church Cemetery.
