Mary Ann Sulkowski, 94, died peacefully surrounded by her family Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Mission Hospital. Mrs. Sulkowski was born in Sumter, SC and was a daughter of the late Ezra Howard and Blanche White Johns. She was married to William W. Sulkowski, who died in 1983. She was also preceded in death by sisters Virginia Dillard, Harriett Ullrich and Shirley Johns. She was a veteran of the US Army Nurse Corps and was a Second Lieutenant. She retired from Mission Hospital having worked as an epidural nurse. She was a member of the Basilica of St. Lawrence. She was an avid Duke fan, and bowled for many years at Star lanes Bowling Center. She had a love of flowers and the beach, tennis and music. Surviving are daughters, Veronica Ann Sulkowski, Mary Catherine Sulkowski Littrell (Ron), Joan Irene Cole (Kent) and Elizabeth Jane Gresham (Jeff); sons, Lawrence "Larry" Sulkowski (Noreen) and Joseph Walter Sulkowski (Sandy); eleven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; sister Barbara Parsons; and brother, E. Howard "Sonny" Johns, Jr. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. C. Morris Boyd, D.Min. at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Basilica of St. Lawrence. Interment with military honors will follow at Ashelawn Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Ave. The family wishes to express special thanks to her recent caregivers Arlinda Chidlow, Angie Beysher, Rhonda Justice and Barbara Boyd.   12. I was Mary’s neighbor on Brucemont Circle for about 5 years. My dog Otis and I would frequently accompany her on her walks around the circle, and she was always up for talking about Duke basketball and life in general. I feel very fortunate to have known her! Much love to Mary and her family…. She will be missed….
