Mary C. Barrero, 74, of the Miami Motel, 19-23, Candler, died Sunday, February 6, 2005. Mrs. Barrero was born in Asheville and was a daughter of the late Claude D. and Jewell McCall Justice. She was married to Anthony Barrero who died in 1987, and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ed Justice and Robert Justice. Mrs. Barrero was a graduate of Candler High School and attended Blanton’s Business College. She was the owner of the Miami Motel and was a member of Hominy Baptist Church. Surviving are her sister, Lee Justice Leatherwood of Waynesville; a brother, Joe Justice; a niece, Soni Carrier and her husband Todd of Waynesville; three great-nieces Sara, Anna and Grace Carrier; and friends, including her lifelong friend Sue Buckner, and Georgia and Zack Papazacharios and their children Lacky and Patricia. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with entombment at Pisgah View Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hominy Valley Flood Relief Fund, c/o Montmorenci United Methodist Church, PO Box 610, Candler, NC 28715.

  2. Mary was a wonderful person! I met her several years ago when I was working at Ingles on Smoky Park Hwy.
    I always made sure they did not load her grocerys heavy. I fell in love with Mary then. After i left Ingles I didn’t see her for a long time then I ran into her at Winn Dixie. I went to see her at her home after that several times. I am really going to miss you Mary not being agle to see you any more but one day we will see each other in heaven. I love You Your Friend Always Debbie

  4. We are very sadden for the lost of Mary, she was part of our family and a person we will always hold dear to our hearts. Her Kindness and Love will be truely missed, but we know she is safe now in God’s Loving Arms. Mary we’ll see you again on the otherside. We Love You!!
