Mary Catherine Bryant Helton, 70, of Asheville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 16, 2009, following her battle with cancer. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Helen Myers Bryant. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Helton and infant daughter, Gloria. A lifetime member of Grassy Branch Baptist Church, Mary worked for Mars Manufacturing for 21 years and also for Pass Industries. She loved spending time with her grandsons and great-granddaughters, her special Aunt Katherine and her many cousins who she loved as brothers and sisters. Survivors include her son, Jeffery (Ciggy) Helton; her daughter, Janice Worley and her husband Floyd; two grandsons, Michael and Nicholas Worley; two great-granddaughters, Bobbie and Arizona Worley. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Joe Babb officiating. Burial will follow at Grassy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Janice Worley. The family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and CNAs at the Laurels of Summit Ridge for all their care.
