MARY ELIZABETH DUNCAN WORK Mary Elizabeth Duncan Work died surrounded by her children on January 24, 2009, at St. Joseph Campus Mission Hospitals, in Asheville, NC. She was 88 years old and had lived for the past 6 months in Asheville to be close to her great-grandson and other family members. She had resided at Heather Glen Assisted Living facility. Mary Elizabeth was born on July 12, 1920, in Durant, OK, to parents Sally and Odell Carr Duncan. She graduated from Durant High School and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State Teachers College, in Durant. She was an active member of the Christian Church. After her husband retired from the ministry, the couple lived in Durant and then moved to the Oklahoma Christian Home in Edmond, OK. Mary Elizabeth was an accomplished water color painter and produced many beautiful paintings that are displayed around the country. Her most recent exhibit was at Heather Glen. Mary Elizabeth had three grandsons, Benjamin, Christopher and Matthew, and one great-grandson, Phoenix Orion. In her 80s Mary Elizabeth had a lively interest in using email, digital photography, regular spiritual study and holistic health practices and often displayed a wry sense of humor. She loved to visit New York and Washington, D.C. where her sons lived. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Odell, sister, Laura Louise, and daughter-in-law, Mary. Guestbook

  1. Our family cherishes the birth announcement that Mary Elizabeth painted for our son in 1995. It hangs in his room to this day. Mary Elizabeth and Rob too, we’re a positive influence upon our lives and the lives of our children. The churches they were a part of, were better because they were such wonderful people. We har happy they are now together with the Lord, but we are sad for the family. Mary Elizabeth and Rob made huge prints upon our lives.

  2. I grew up in the First Christian Church in Perry, was baptized by Robbie, and loved by Mary Elizabeth. She could always light up any room she would enter. I was able to see her again in Edmond at the Oklahoma Christian Home when I was there doing a service before I moved to Houston. She and Robbie will be missed greatly, but they were true servents of the Lord, and their reward shall be great. God bless you all as you remember them both.
    In God’s Grip,
    John

  4. Rob and Duncan,
Archie and I were so sorry to hear of Mary Elizabeths passing. She was a wonderful person and we so enjoyed seeing her each year as we passed through Edmond to go to Texas. We helped she and Robbie celebrate both their 25th and 50th Anniversaries. They were so special to us and will be greatly missed. Blessings to all the family. Archie and Ivajean

  5. We are sorry to hear of Mary Elizabeth’s passing. We were proud to call Robbie and Mary Elizabeth our friends. We spent a lot of time with them when we were pastoring in Oklahoma and Kansas. Our condolences to the family.
