Mary Fragakis Poulos, 90, of Asheville, died peacefully at home, on February 28, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Poulos, born in Klapsi, Greece, was the daughter of the late Kosta and Evanthia Fragakis and the beloved wife of the late George Poulos. The former owner and operator of the Happy Hill Restaurant in Asheville, an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and of the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society and Daughters of Penelope both philanthropic organizations. She is survived by her daughter, Amalia Lawrence (Mike); three sons, Dr. Milton Poulos (Athena), Nick Anagnostopoulos (Maria), and Gus Poulos, all of Asheville; seven grandchildren, Anastasia Lawrence, Paul Lawrence, Nicole Anagnostopoulos, George Poulos, Costa Poulos, George Anagnostopoulos, and Alexandra Lawrence, and a great grandchild, Nicholas Anagnostopoulos. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 6, 2017 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Asheville, NC with Father Michael Diavatis officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. A Trisagion service will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 7:30 pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox church located on Cumberland Avenue, with visitation beginning at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Care Partners Hospice, PO Box 25388, Asheville, NC 28813 or Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, PO Box 8360, Asheville, NC 28814. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

  4. What can you say other than Mary was a great lady that this world needs more of. We always enjoyed talking to her when we would mow her yard. My granddaughter (Peyton) always wanted to go because Mrs Poulos would always come to the door and invite her in while we mowed, needless to say she was spoiled by the many tea party’s they would have while we were there.
