Mary Frances Cowan, of 110 Vandalia Avenue, Asheville, died
Tuesday, November 24, 1998.
A lifelong resident of Asheville, she was the daughter of
Garnette Styers Cowan of Asheville and of the late Clarence
William Cowan.
She was a graduate of Appalachian State University and a
member of Westwood Baptist Church. She was a member of
the Hylite Asheville Business Women's Club and the Alpha
Delta Kappa Sorority, Epsilon Chapter. She was a teacher for
16 years in Portsmouth, VA and for the past 23 years in
Buncombe County, most recently at Enka High School.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a brother, William
Cowan of Kingsport, Tenn.; two nieces, a nephew and seven
great-nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 am Saturday in Westwood Baptist Church
conducted by the Revs. Carson Moseley and James Boyd.
Interment will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers will
be Doug Ray, Ray Davis, John Hawkins, Gil Elliott, Mark Cowan
and G.B. Pressley. Richard Styers will be an honorary
pallbearer.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Friday at
Groce Funeral Home where Ms. Cowan will remain until placed
in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Westwood Place, Asheville, NC 28806.
