Mary Louise Guerry Shull

Mary Louise Guerry Shull, 88, passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers. She was born on March 30, 1927, to the late Nathaniel and Etta Sims and also was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Price Shull, Jr.; and her first husband, Walter Steven Guerry; a son, Walter Steven Guerry; a stepson, Jeffrey Price Shull; and brothers, Jack Sims, Roy Sims and Bobby Sims. She was a homemaker and made her family her number one priority! She loved to garden, the outdoors and traveling, her dog Wiggles and most of all being a grandmother. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed volunteering in the community. She is survived by her daughter, Anna Lisa Shull Collins, her husband, Paul, and their two children, Paul and Ellie Collins, of Asheville and her son, Michael Todd Shull of Asheville and his daughter, Katherine Shull of Simpsonville, SC. Also surviving are five step-children, Mark Shull and wife, Becky; Jon Shull and wife, Dana; Joel Shull; Patricia Mixon and husband, Mickey; and Karen Blazer and husband, Scott; eleven step-grandchildren, Michael Shull, Sara Boone, Johanna Shull, Joshua Shull, Olivia, Alexandria and Catherine Shull, Courtney Mixon, Evan Mixon, Ryan Blazer and Tyler Blazer and two step-great grandchildren. In addition, Mary is survived by her sister, Patsy Sims Kuykendall and her husband, Sam. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Rennard, Memory Care, CarePartners Hospice and all of her nurses and caregivers and her friends and neighbors for all of their support and compassion throughout the years. A private service is planned for family with burial at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Memory Care or to CarePartners Hospice. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
