Hendersonville – Mary M. Winfrey, 93, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2006, at Life Care Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Grain Valley, Missouri, daughter of the late Thomas and Katherine Chiddix. Prior to moving to Hendersonville, two years ago, she resided in Kansas City, Missouri (1935–1956), Topeka, Kansas (1956–1972) and Shawnee Mission, Kansas (1972–2004).
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Lance Blakely; four brothers, Clarence, Roy, Harvey and David Chiddix and one sister, Audrey Helms.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, John William “Bill” Winfrey; two daughters, Barbara A. Andrews, and her husband Don, of Hendersonville, Marilyn Skau, and her husband Tom, of Mooresville, NC; two grandsons, Dr. Kent Blakely, and his wife Dr. Linda Blakely, of Kearney, Nebraska, and David Admire of Mooresville, NC; three great granddaughters, Lauren, Maike and Natalie Blakely of Kearney, Nebraska; two sisters, Ethel Vanarsdall of Blue Springs, Missouri and Ruby Vanarsdall of Buckner, Missouri.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at the New Salem Funeral Home, 1823 Blue Mills Road, Independence, MO. Interment will follow in Buckner Cemetery in Buckner, MO. The family will receive friends from 10 am until 11 am Thursday at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held at a future date at the Life Care Center in Hendersonville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.

We heard the news today of your Mom’s passing. Although not unexcpected, it is still painful to lose a loved one. Even though we never had the privlege of meeting your Mother, we’re certain she’ll be deeply missed by all who knew her.
