Mary Maybelle Ballard, 92, of Asheville, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Jeter and Sarah Elizabeth Edmonds Head. She was also preceded in death by her husband William Jennings Ballard who died November, 1968. She was a member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, Alvin J. Ballard and his wife Adeline of Canton, Ray A. Ballard and his wife Amy of Washington, DC, and Gary E. Ballard and his wife Rebecca of Asheville; one daughter Linda B. Kennedy and her husband Bruce of Asheville; five grandchildren, Candace L. Kennedy, Bruce L. Kennedy and his wife Lauren, Stephanie Honeycutt, Tracy Ballard and Brian J. Ballard; and one great-granddaughter, Nicole Sydney Kennedy. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Billy Cline and the Rev. Tom Lomax officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to the Homebound Ministry of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church, 283 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.
