Mary McLaurin Greene Nicolaides, 74, of Beech Island, SC, left this life peacefully at her home surrounded by friends and family.
She is survived by her son, Shaun Alexis Nicolaides, and countless friends who were drawn to her loving nature and her devotion to helping others. She will be remembered by her devotees as one who was a passionate disciple of art and music, a lover of words, a champion of those without a voice, a student of nature. She believed that truth and beauty can be found in all things. As she begins this new journey, her legacy will be remembered and shared by all who know her beautiful soul, as it lives on in all she touched.
A service of celebration will be held Wednesday, May 26th at 3:00 at Cataloochee State Park, outside of Asheville, NC. The family asks that all come wearing the bright, beautiful colors that Mary loved so much.
A reception will follow at The Village Wayside Grille in Biltmore Village at 6:00. Her ashes will be scattered at the burial place of her ancestors on Edisto Island, SC.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting her family.
Mary have a wonderful journey, and I treasure the memories now and always….we are little country girls…and we know certain things that no one else does and can’t..I have been blessed to know you…Love Donna
We were so sorry to learn about Mary. She was such a sweet and understanding person. She nursed our mother before her death in 1991 and our mother cared for her very much. We did too. She made the world a better place. She will be missed. Our prayers go out to the family and those she loved and those who loved her. Ann Worrall and Jacqueline Bradley , daughters of Alma Tankersley.
Mary Nicolaides was always one of my favorite people. I remember many days spent at her house with Shaun when I was younger, and it always made me smile when she showed up for Augusta Choral Society concerts while I was still in the area and singing with that group. Shaun, I’ll be praying for you.
Many great memories of time spent with this family when my brother and i were kids. I’m thinking of and praying for Shaun and all those who are missing Mary now. Everyone who knew her is better for having done so.
Fond remembrance of Mary and her entire family in Beech Island. Glad she was able to be with Shawn for some time, her pride and joy.
Shaun, I am truly saddened to hear about your mother. She was a very sweet and caring lady. I will cherish the times that I spent with her in your home. If I can do anything for you, please let me know. You will be in my thoughts.
