Mary Rebecca Hunter

Mary Whitaker Hunter, 91, of 112 Old Lime Kiln Road, Arden, died Thursday, November 26, 1998, in Park Ridge Hospital, Fletcher.

Mrs. Hunter was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late John Burton and Evie Davis Whitaker. She was married to the late Charles Eugene Hunter, Jr. and worked as a secretary for 45 years at Minico Dry Cleaners. She then went to work for the Buncombe County Council on Aging where she was a receptionist for 10 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Asheville.

She is survived by three step-daughters, Joann Kiley, Jane Otto, and Jean Hunter; four sisters, Clara Edmonds, Lucille Woody, Johnsie Crompton, and Sara Fore; two brothers, Joe Whitaker and James I. Whitaker; and three step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 Sunday at Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. G. Scott Lynch and Gail Coulter officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery.
