Mary Lou Rowland Rector, 88, of Asheville, died Sunday, October 2, 2011 in Mission Hospital. Born in Marble, NC, she was a daughter of the late Ham and Minnie Barton Rowland. She is also preceded in death by one brother, Mervin Rowland and one sister, Drama R. Rowland. Mary retired from Southern Railway as a Procurement Clerk. She loved her dogs and also gardening. She was a true fan of the Colts football team and Carolina basketball. Survivors include 2 daughters, Linda Rector of Fairview and Barbara Sinclair and her husband Bill, of Etowah; two grandchildren, Lisa Atkins and her husband Jason and Brandee Morris and her husband Chris; four great grandchildren, Luke Atkins, Gracie Atkins, Addie Morris and Caroline Morris; and sister, Katy Allen of Canton, OH. The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 6, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home, Tunnel Road. The Rev. Dr. Joe R. Babb will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Skyview Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be made to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 8195, Asheville, NC, 28814. Groce Funeral Home, Tunnel Road is assisting the Rector family.

You taught me how to appreciate so much in life from myself to my culture. You will be missed by many.   2. I have known Mary Lou since I was about six years old, or thereabouts. She was always so kind and nice to me. I will miss her sense of humor and her wit. I will miss her love of flowers and dogs. I will miss her story-telling of the old days in the mountains. She was a corker, she was. She was so special to me.

I hope I can become even just half the woman you are, you are smart, witty & so very inspiring. Thank you for being you and for being there for my kids. I am so grateful my children got to know you.
