Mary Ruth Rose, 68, of Dunwell Avenue, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. A native of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the late James and Clara Ingle Sharpe. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Sharpe. Mrs. Rose worked for the Buncombe Co. Schools Progressive Education Program, with Visiting Health Professionals, and also as a floral designer for Gudgers Flowers. She formerly attended Candler House of Prayer. Mrs. Rose lived by her motto: "Blessed is the Peacemaker". She was the devoted wife of George W. Rose, her husband of 44 years and the loving mother of daughters Brenda Crisp and husband Phillip Sr. of Candler, Tammy Simmons and husband Bobby of Candler, Rita Rose of Asheville, Angela Rose and husband Miguel of Asheville, and Chris Merrill and husband Mike of Asheville; step-son Steven Eldon Rose of Covington, VA; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild, due in November; and a sister, Juanita Holloway of Fairview. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Lunsford officiating. Interment will follow at Crawford Ray Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Christopher James Robinson, Phillip Allen Crisp, Jr., Eric Daniel Robinson, Robert Cody Sams, Jerry Calvin Holloway, Jr., and Joshua James Holloway. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Following the service, the family will gather at the home of Brenda Crisp. Flowers are appreciated, or donations may be made to Cancer Centers of North Carolina, 20 Medical Park Dr., Asheville, NC 28803.

    I worked with Mary at VHP as a CNA many years ago. She was always willing to help in aynway– from seeing difficult patients to working extra hours to make sure everyone was taken care of. Your loss is unbearable now, but just think of her in Heaven, with no pain, only joy. You are in my prayers.

    Mary is resting in the arms of Jesus now free of pain and suffering.

  23. Mamaw was always there…filling a need, saying a prayer, or just to talk too and she always had a way of making you feel like everything was going to be okay. She is going to be deeply missed…first thing I went to do when my baby was sick was call her! We can still talk to her, feel her presence and know how much she loved us all! I love you all…my family means a lot to me…especially my Papaw! We are going to be okay…we just have to lean on and support each other! Love, Ryan Michelle
