Mary Shawn McWhirter Fletcher- Mary Shawn Reuter McWhirter, 63, of Fletcher, died Sunday, May 6, 2012 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Hudson, MI, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Janice Schad Reuter. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Reuter. Shawn was an employee of Mission Health System for 30 years where she made life long friends. She loved life and all that knew her were enriched by her spirit. There will never be a smile with more joy than Shawn's. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Larry McWhirter; one daughter, Heidi Boone and her fiancé, Paul Connor; sister-in-law, Chresteen Reuter; nephews, Jameson Reuter, Jonathan Reuter and his wife, Elizabeth and their children, Amelia and Charlie and Jacob Reuter and his wife, Susan and their daughter, Autumn. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church with Father Andrew officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from 5:30 – 8:30 PM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family graciously asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

I love looking at all her photos and Tracy’s and seeing her smiling face… It is how I remember her and you… Always smiling!! … You and all your family is in my thoughts and prayers….

  4. Larry and Heidi, Words cannot express how sorry I am to lose my best friend, as I know she was yours too. For someone who had to go through so many trials throughout the years, she never lost her beautiful smile and wonderful outlook on life. I loved her to bits and will miss her dearly. She is an inspriation to me. Stay strong for her, as she would have done, and I only wish I could be closer. You are in my thoughts and prayers. (Goodbye Shanwy my friend)

  5. Heidi and Larry, Paulette just called me with the sad knews of Shawn’s passing. I know she’ll be truly missed by her family and all who have the fond memories of her friendship. As with others who have had the opportunity to cross paths with Shawn, I am grieving at the loss of such a wonderful person.

  9. Larry, Shawn and I shared an office at SJ for a year. She was the most fun person ever to work with. She taught me so much – about work, about life, about love and family. You worked on my yard right before my daughter’s wedding, and my husband’s death. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this tough time. Shawn’s picture is so beautiful – just like her. Take care and remember all the good times. It is hard to lose someone. But she will always be with you.

  18. Heros are known to be strong, courageous, still willing to fight knowing the odds may be against them, and down right stubborn, not willing to give up. Shawn and Larry are true heros in every since of the word. It was an honor to have known Shawn and is still an honor to know Larry and call them both friends.
