Candler ~ Mattie R. Price, 87, of Hominy Valley Retirement Center, formerly of Avery’s Creek Road., went to be with the Lord on November 1, 2005. Mrs. Price was born in Jackson County, but spent most of her life in Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Kathern Nicholson Rigdon and was preceded in death by her husband, who died in March 2004. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Parker and Rezell Mathis and on brother, J. M. Rigdon. She retired from the Buncombe County School System as a nutritional specialist and was a member of the Words of Life Tabernacle which she attended regularly until her lengthily illness. Survivors include her three daughters, Beverly Lorenz and her husband, Ray of Orlando, FL., Martha Moses and her husband, Paul of Candler and Bettie Jean Allen and her husband Cliff of Mars Hill; two sons, William Holmes Price, Jr. and his wife Wanda of Mills River and A.R. Price and his wife Kathryn of Arden; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Corson and a brother, Alvin Rigdon both of Tuckaseegee. The funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road with the Rev. David Glenn officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Throughout her illness she remained steadfast in her faith and an encouragement to all those who were blessed with her uplifting smile and attitude. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hominy Valley Retirement Center, PO Box 1810, Candler, NC 28715. The family would like to thank Hominy Valley Retirement Center for all the love and care shown during her stay at the facility.
