Max Eugene Ballard, Sr., 95, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at his home at the Pisgah Valley Retirement Community.

Mr. Ballard was born August 16, 1926, in Dover, OH, to the late John Robert and Lois Mary Wright Ballard. Max was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Surrett Ballard, who died in 2018.

He was an Army veteran of WW II, a member of Oak Forest Presbyterian Church, and was a lifelong Pilgrim and gardener. As a lifelong sports fan, he had a special place in his heart for the Atlanta Braves. He was retired as a vending machine route salesman.

His family includes daughters Linda Gregory and Pattie Bremekamp; sons Doug Lance and Max E. Ballard, Jr.; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and Renee Ledford, longtime companion and dear friend, who the family expresses their appreciation to for the care and love she provided to both our mom and dad.

The family will plan a private memorial service for Mr. Ballard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, any veteran’s organizations or the charity of your choice.

  2. I am so sad to hear that uncle Max has passed. I always enjoyed when he and Aunt Frankie would visit Ohio.
    My wife Karen and I were able to drive to Ashville a couple times while we lived in Atlanta and that was always a real treat.
