Max Garland Lance
June 11, 1932 ~ June 24, 2000

A lifelong resident of Asheville, he was a son of Ethel Mae Spillars Lance of Palatka, Florida and of the late Garland Brigman Lance. Mr. Lance was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict and was a retired manager of the American Optical Company.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Alice Creasman Lance; his two daughters, Marcia Lance, Susan Lance Pack and her husband Richard; his son, Dennis Max Lance; three grandchildren, Timothy Worsham, Christina Lyda and Terra Ward; two step-grandchildren, Daniel Pack and Tonya Pack Carver and two great-grandchildren, all of Asheville; two sisters, Bernice Stahman of Palatka, Fla. and Elaine Piner of Jacksonville, Fla.
Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday in the New Salem Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Clifford Spencer and Dr. John P. Spencer.
Memorials may be made to Hearts With Hands, 951 Sand Hill Road, Candler, NC 28715.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is in charge of arrangements.

Even though we haven’t been in touch in years, I still think of you often. When I learned the news about your Dad through the AC-T online, my heart goes out to you. I remember first meeting you and your parents almost 30 years ago, and thinking what a wonderful family who enjoyed each other and doing things together.And I remember your Dad as a kind and gentle man.
