Asheville - Max Garland Lance, 68, of 252 Racquet Club Road, Asheville, died Saturday, June 24, 2000 in a local hospital.

A lifelong resident of Asheville, he was a son of Ethel Mae Spillars Lance of Palatka, Florida and of the late Garland Brigman Lance. Mr. Lance was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict and was a retired manager of the American Optical Company.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Alice Creasman Lance; his two daughters, Marcia Lance, Susan Lance Pack and her husband Richard; his son, Dennis Max Lance; three grandchildren, Timothy Worsham, Christina Lyda and Terra Ward; two step-grandchildren, Daniel Pack and Tonya Pack Carver and two great-grandchildren, all of Asheville; two sisters, Bernice Stahman of Palatka, Fla. and Elaine Piner of Jacksonville, Fla.

Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday in the New Salem Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Clifford Spencer and Dr. John P. Spencer.

Memorials may be made to Hearts With Hands, 951 Sand Hill Road, Candler, NC 28715.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is in charge of arrangements.
