Max Williams Fowler, 78, of Candler, died on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at St. Joseph Campus Mission Hospitals. A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. Fowler was a son of the late Clyde W. and Charity W. Fowler. He was also preceded in death by his son, David Fowler. Mr. Fowler attended Candler High School, and graduated from Christ School. He was a former associate with F&G Motors, worked with Peebles Oil Co. for a number of years, and more recently worked with Country Foods Stores and Whitt Motor Sales. He was a founder of the Hominy Valley Wildlife Club, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Snow Hill Methodist Church. Max will be remembered as a wonderful person who was loved by many. He was a friend to all. He is survived by his son, Tommy Fowler and wife Kristi, of Woodstock, GA; sister, Jean Fowler McGee, of Arden; grandchildren, Quinnon Fowler, of Candler, and Madison and Abbie Fowler, both of Woodstock; his longtime friend, Thelma Murray; a number of nieces and nephews, and his best friend, Bruce Whitt. No services will be held, per Mr. Fowler's request. Memorials may be made to the Hominy Valley Wildlife Club, P.O. Box 774, Candler, NC 28715.

  3. We have known Max for many years. He delivered fuel oil to us from Peebles Oil Company. We saw him often at Highway 151 Restaurant and at Whitt Motor Sales. Max had a good personality, always smiling. He was loved by many and will be truly missed. May God bless all the family, especially Quinnon who dearly loved his Grandpa.

Max Fowler was a loving man, loving father & loving friend, David looked to him as a father figure, He was Thelma’s BEST friend , has always been there for his family and friends, he has and always will be in our hearts, he can not be replaced, there is deep loss in the passing of such a good man, that has meant everything to The Odom family, he was a father, and a loving partner to Thelma Murray for 19 years. He was David’s best friend & will NEVER be forgotten. His kindness will never be forgotton and we will love and miss you forever. Lacey say’s ‘ I love you Mr. Max!’
