Maxine Metcalf Maynard, 85, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

Mrs. Maynard was born in Buncombe County to the late Rumbo and Christine Gosnell Metcalf. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Grover Ernest Maynard; one brother and three sisters.

Maxine was a member of Long Shoals Baptist Church. She graduated Cecil’s Business College with a degree in Accounting and retired from Cutler Hammer. She also worked many years at the Waffle House on Long Shoals Road as a Hostess. She loved clogging and singing and loved her family dearly especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children; Ronald Maynard, Sherry Heitmann (Dennis) and Brandon Maynard (Michelle); nine grandchildren, Chad, Hunter, Zachary, Taylor, Caylyn, Kelsey, Colton, Mason and Madison; eight great grandchildren, Sadie, Nash, Raelynn, Kinley, Ella, Hudson, Johannah and Harrison.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Avery’s Creek Christian Church.

  13. I first met Maxine, when she substituted at the Roberson High School Progressive Education Program, the PEP, with Buncombe County Schools. I was the Music Teacher. Maxine also substituted at Avery’s Creek Elementary, ACES, where I also taught. She was always so friendly, polite, and sweet. Once I retired, I then substituted at Avery’s Creek, for several years. We often saw each other. Maxine always talked about her children, and grand children, some who attended ACES. What a sweet Christian lady. She will be missed…

  18. We worked at Belks together. She handled the jewelry dept. While I worked in the Shoes dept right close by. Very classy, upscale sweet hearted lady. ❤ And I found her again at the waffle house after we both left bells.
    Wow, what a outgoing lady, hope I will be like her later in my life too..although she never knew what age was. Best of comfort to the family! See you again Sweet Lady Maxine !
