Fairview ~ Mayme Jacobs Dotson, 78, of 27 Dotson Cove Road, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at her home after a period of declining health. Mrs. Dotson was born September 6, 1923 in Almond, NC to the late Byrd P. and Belle Tallent Jacobs. She was also predeceased by her stepmother, Dora Stansberry Jacobs. She was married for over 50 years to Don C. Dotson, Sr., who died in 1996. She is survived by six children: Donnie C. Dotson, Jr., Stanley Dotson, Joe Dotson of Fairview, Kathleen Houck of Asheville, Wanda Galante of Marietta, GA and Linda Dotson of Fletcher. She is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Two grandsons, Tim Dotson and Kevin Dotson predeceased her. Mrs. Dotson is also survived by five sisters: Dorotha Lovingood of Loganville, GA, Betty Hoffman, Edna Mae Weller and Pauline Blake of Norfolk, VA, and Nannie Sue Sofield of Bryson City; two brothers: Ray Jacobs of Jacksonville, FL and J.B. Jacobs of Bryson City. Mrs. Dotson was a long-time member of Bethany United Methodist Church and the Good Neighbor Club. She was a homemaker and loved her flower gardens and will be missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be Friday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 20 at 11:00 AM at Bethany United Methodist Church in Fairview with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Rev. H.D. Houck and Rev. Avery Owenby will conduct the service. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Flowers are appreciated. Memorials may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 212 Bethany Church Road, Fairview, NC 28730 or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

I am Ruth Dotson’s neice whom lived with her & I got to know Mayme & Don thru her & thru our church that rented his apple orchard many moons ago.
