Fletcher ~ Maynard W. Marshall, 87, of Fletcher, passed away at home Monday, August 28, 2000 following a brief illness.

Mr. Marshall was born in Floyd, VA, the son of the late Crockett & Emma Marshall, and moved to Asheville from Richmond, VA in 1976. He worked as an independent accountant. Following retirement, he enjoyed organic gardening. Mr. Marshall was a member of Arden First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of the Free and Accepted Mason of Ohio, and a master mason of McMillian #141 F&AM in Cincinnati, OH.

Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Marshall, and a brother, Lanan Marshall.

He is survived by three stepchildren, Diana Smith and her husband, Arch of Fletcher; Karen Campbell and her husband, James of Asheville; Scott Harmon and his wife, Barbara of Fletcher; a brother, Luther Marshall of Richmond, VA; two sisters, Ocie Conner and Neva Johnson of Roanoke, VA; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 31 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. Reverend Stephen Summers will officiate with interment following at Pisgah View Memorial Park. Mr. Marshall’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
