Mazel Chatham Murmillo, 92, of Asheville, died on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation & Care Center. A Buncombe Co. native, Mrs. Murmillo was the daughter of the late Harry Lane and Ethel Wilson Chatham. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Joseph Murmillo, and daughter, Judy Murmillo Head. Mrs. Murmillo was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School, Class of 1939. There she earned the distinction of Valedictorian. Mrs. Murmillo stayed busy raising her children while also working as a bookkeeper at Dotson Metal Finishing. She was a member of Reed Memorial Church. She is survived by her three daughters, Judy Murmillo Dotson and husband Gary, of Mills River, Sandi Murmillo Plemmons, of Fletcher, and Cathy Murmillo Clevenger and husband Mark, of Weaverville; seven grandchildren: Brett Dotson, Wendi McCrain, Dawn Allen, Mike and Lori Plemmons and Emily and Eli Clevenger; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Chatham Conner and Lillian Chatham Atwell; and son-in-law, Ray O. Head. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Ave., with the Rev. Dr. William King officiating. Interment will follow at Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
